Last month I went to Singapore to help a friend, Bong Bello. I had a chance to visit familiar places like Little India, Mustafa, Sim Lim Tower and Square and of course Lucky Plaza.
One night at a Jazz Bar in boat quay, I listened to the jam session focusing intently to an old guitarist. Then I thought, ‘if only tatay Amer was here, he would have jammed with them on guitars”
Last Saturday I played the piano for BCBP Angeles outreach. I’m a novice pianist, still learning the rudiments of piano. In fact I still don’t know the broken chords for piano, how to play them. If only tatay Amer was here to assist me. It’s a good thing kuya Jim is here to the rescue, He is sending me a book on basic piano chords from Hongkong. I’m looking forward to that kuya Jim.
Well, today, I have just finished re-arranging my cakewalk pieces and have burned my CD. All praise and worship songs, I arranged and recorded on my PC. If only tatay Amer was here, he would be smiling at me, arranging the songs myself. Wow, I was just disturbing him when I was little while he listens to his 45’s on our turntable, as he writes the songs on his music sheets. Now, I play the piano and the notes are automatically created on the music sheets on my PC.
Well, nostalgic, I know but it is definitely fun remembering tatay Amer.

Such a wonderful music life in the past and still at present. I really hope I can even get closer to the genius of Lolo Amer, whether in guitars or in piano.
At least I don’t bother you while you are composing. He he he.
Love,
Carlos
Mon, Tatay Amer shall always be with us. Everytime you play that chord, write a new song or even just hum a tune, you are playing tribute to his memory. For music, love and tatay will always be with us.
Blessings and take care with your new adventure.
Bong
